What's an asian handicap?

An Asian handicap is a popular bet where the better teams odds are so short that the match is not an attractive betting opportunity. It basically evens things up a bit. It also eliminates the possibility of the result being a draw.

In this case Ecuador are given a 0.5 goal head start. This means that Ecuador can both win or draw the match for the bet to be successful.

If Ecuador were given a 1.5 goal start, then Poland would have to win by 2 or more goals.
