Nottingham Forest 0 Bournemouth 0
Please don't start this season like you finished the last...

Nottingham Forest failed to score, in spite of hitting the woodwork twice, and had to be satisfied with a draw on the opening day of the season.

It was a poor first half with Forest lacking firepower and Bournemouth contained them with ease.

Forest looked better in the second half after Grant Holt and Junior Agogo came on but they were still held by a defensive away side.

Three of Colin Calderwood's summer signings started the game and youngster Brendan Moloney also made his first start for the club as injuries took their toll on who the manager had available.

Darren Anderton misplaced the ball to give KrisCommons the first chance of the game after five minutes. He nipped in, stole the ball and got into the box but was eventually dispossessed.

Paul Smith did well to save from Bournemouth's corner a minute later, diving to his left to save Josh Gowling's shot from 12 yards out.

It was a much easier save for Smith when Wes Morgan only cleared the ball as far as Anderton, who shot straight at the Forest keeper.

Bournemouth were awarded a free kick on the edge of the D when Morgan fouled Jo Kuffour and the Forest player picked up the side's first yellow card of the season. Anderton blasted the ball into the wall to waste the chance.

Luke Chambers produced a good header forward to Brendan Moloney whose ball went across the face of goal but his effort was just a bit too strong to enable Scott Dobie to get on the end of it.

Dobie came close a minute later when Commons knocked the ball down to him, but his shot went just wide of the near post.

As Forest continued to pile on the pressure Sammy Clingan's shot from 25 yards out crashed against the post to deny him his first Forest goal.

But Bournemouth began to frustrate Forest as they got everyone behind the ball and there was not much more than ten minutes of the half remaining before they created another chance. Commons did well to control the ball and turn but his effort from 25 yards was wide of the post.

Gareth O'Connor missed the chance to give Bournemouth the lead when Anderton put the ball through to him at the back edge of the penalty area, but he completely mis-kicked the ball and sent it out.

The second half was slow to get going with Forest's first chance coming some eight minutes into the game. It was a good ball in by Commons, with both Morgan and Dobie going up for it, but Morgan's header from the edge of the 6-yard box went wide.

And Clingan came close again when he fired on the volley from 12 yards and the ball just clipped the top corner of the post on its way out.

A double substitution 15 minutes into the half was popular with the home crowd who applauded Grant Holt and Junior Agogo as they came on to replace Moloney and Dobie.

The side certainly looked better with two strikers up front but, although Forest pushed forward Bournemouth dealth with the pressure well.

It was another ten minutes before Forest came close when Clingan once again got away down the right and fired the ball in but Asmir Begovic managed to get hold of it just before Holt could get on the end of it.

A bad clearance by Morgan gifted Anderton the ball. His shot went through substitute Julian Bennett's legs and Smith was only just able to dive to tip the ball out for a Bournemouth corner.

A good break by Luke Chambers down the right gave Forest a chance ten minutes before time. He pulled the ball back to Commons, who did well to get to the ball first, but sent it over the crossbar.

In the last minute a terrible challenge by Paul Telfer sent James Perch flying as his boot hit the Forest player very high and Forest were awarded a free kick to the right of the D. Commons produced a great shot but the ball flew just over the bar.

Agogo almost gave Forest a stoppage time goal as he turned and shot at close range but the Bournemouth keeper managed to dive onto the ball seconds before the final whistle.
